Truck Engines Used

Best deals on truck engines used

There are several different types of engines that are used in automobiles. The number of cylinders inside the engine usually differentiates them. In addition, sometimes, the engines are categorized based on how the cylinders are laid out. Most of the vehicles will have from 3 to 12 cylinders that are set in various configurations in the engine block.

The widely type of truck engines used is the in line engines. Here all the cylinders are arranged in one row or a line. The engines that have up to 6 cylinders commonly use this type of arrangement. Another type of arrangement is the V-arrangement in which the cylinders are arranged in two banks in the form of V. In the flat engines, two banks of cylinders are arranged oppositely on a horizontal plane. Such arrangements are used to a certain extent by companies like Subaru and Porsche in some of their cars and in the VW beetle. Some Ferrari cars also use flat engines.

The working of an automotive engine consists of the following steps. They are intake, compression, power and exhaust. In each cylinder of the engine, the above mentioned four processes occur in order to create the power required to move the vehicle. During the intake step, the piston in the cylinder moves down. The intake valve opens and the air fuel mixture enter into the cylinder. When the piston goes down again, the intake valve closes, thus trapping air fuel mixture.

In the compression step, the trapped air is compressed when the piston moves upwards. Thus, the air fuel mixture is compressed and squeezed to one tenth of its actual volume.

In the third step, the spark plug ignites the compressed air fuel mixture and in turn creates a strong expansion of vapor. This process of combustion pushes down the piston with greater strength and it turns the crankshaft to offer the power required to the automobile. Finally, in the exhaust step, the burned gas is released to exterior through the exhaust valve and the piston moves all the way up and continues the cycle.

The truck engines are divided into different types based on the fuel they use and they are gasoline engines and used diesel truck engine . The small trucks such as sports utility vehicles (SUV), pickup trucks and medium duty trucks like Chevy truck engines are gasoline engines. These are very common in the regions of North America and Russia. But Diesel engines have also been extensively manufactured in recent times. For instance, most of the heavy duty truck engines are four stroke turbo intercooler diesel engines. The huge off road trucks use diesel engines like v12 Detroit Diesel two stroke engine.

The trucks that are manufactured in North America have engines produced by third party, in general. Some of the third party manufacturing companies are CAT, Cummins and Detroit Diesel. However, companies such as Volvo manufacture their own engines in order to create high performance truck.
